Jammu and Kashmir Sahara Foundation is a philanthropic society founded in 2017, by a leading group of social work practitioners, alumni of Media Education Research Center and law graduates from the University of Kashmir. The vision of elite scholars was to outreach the society with their intellect, knowledge and wisdom. The passion of philanthropism stated with 2014 devastating floods wherein thousands of lives were affected and hundreds of families displaced in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The founding members of the prospective organization worked tirelessly to outreach the affected families through immediate relief distribution and rehabilitation.
With the growing time, the passion of social work increased till the organization took its recognized form and with the rise of newly formed organization in 2017 many intellectuals, former servicemen and philanthropist joined the growing change and extended their hands for active participation.
Meanwhile, with the dynamic participation of experienced members from various fields the operations of the organization diversified, ultimately making the credentials of the organization as reliable and responsible.
One of the interdisciplinary wing of the J&K Sahara Foundation developed into full fledged Solid and Liquid Waste Management Division (S&LWM Division) led by versatile and experienced members, many of whom have decades long work experience with prestigious institutions Like Bombay Municipal Corporation, Indore Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Apart from many other developmental projects, JK Sahara Foundation is presently working on the Information Education Communication (IEC) programme on solid waste management for Srinagar Municipal Corporation. The said program works on inculcation of behavioral change among the citizen of Srinagar city to give up the traditional approaches of waste generation. The program equally extends to the capacity development of sanitation associates to strengthen their capacity with advanced techniques of collection, transportation, disposal of waste and sanitation. Further, the program is mandated to overlook all round affairs of Swachh Bharat Mission Swachh that includes developing training modules on effective waste management, handling of social media for awareness and promotion of healthy practices of cleanliness and hygiene, sustainment of ODF status, to undertake special thematic cleanliness drives and developing Calendars/Newsletters and weekly report.
The coordinated efforts of IEC partner and SMC has elevated the rank of Srinagar city from 357 to 45 in the recently held Swachh Survekshan, 2020
